Time to button up, clean up and cut back garden plants and put out a pop of color with mums and varietals of the cabbage family. Inside, use deeper, richer colors, although jewel tones are still hot. Grey down some brights for a warmer, softer and richer color on your walls or in your use of fabrics.
Try to use complementary colors in your decor. Use a bit of orange to bring out blues, green to bring out reds, yellow to bring out violets, and vice versa. The new fabrics are colorful and eye-catching. Cover a chair with a startling print in an otherwise neutral room.
Being "green" in your choices of bamboo flooring or in fabrics is the direction now. And, that means re-using items you may have put away. Do not be afraid of a timely place antique in an all modern room, or a mid-century modern piece in your more traditional setting.
Paint your ceilings a color...sometimes a darker ceiling makes it disappear into the height of the room and not bring it closer. Try it first in a half bath or entry area, then expand to larger spaces.
Whatever you do, have fun! Nothing has to be static. Your life isn't!
